Wei Chong-Kai Wun survive stern test in Yeosu

Still in the hunt: Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun had to work hard to overcome Japan's Haruki Kawabe-Kenta Matsukawa 21-14, 26-24 in the quarter-finals.

PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun kept Malaysia's hopes alive at the Korean Open by booking their place in the semi-finals on Friday (Nov 6).

The third seeds, however, had to work hard to overcome Japan's Haruki Kawabe-Kenta Matsukawa 21-14, 26-24 in the quarter-finals at the Jinnam Stadium in Yeosu.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun could face a tougher challenge in Saturday's (Nov 7) semi-finals, where they will meet either South Korea's world No. 1 pair Kim Won-ho-Seo Seung-jae or China's Wang Chang-Xie Haonan for a place in the final.

There was no such joy for mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing, who bowed out after losing 14-21, 18-21 to China's top seeds Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin.
