Tang Jie-Ee Wei dispose of Canadian pair with ease to enter M’sian Masters second round


PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei had no trouble advancing to the second round of the Malaysian Masters after beating Canada’s Jonathan Lai-Crystal Lai on Wednesday (May 20).

In the first-round match at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil, Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who are also the second seeds, needed just 24 minutes to win 21-6, 21-14.

They are expected to face Indonesia’s Amri Syahnawi-Nita Marwah in the second round.

“I think it was a good start for us today, and hopefully we can do even better tomorrow,” said Tang Jie.

Also through to the second round was women’s singles shuttler K. Letshanaa, who defeated Denmark’s Amalie Schulz 21-13, 19-21, 21-15.

Letshanaa will next face third seed Tomoka Miyazaki in the second round.

Meanwhile, Wong Ling Ching put up a strong fight before going down 21-12, 13-21, 23-25 to seventh seed Nguyen Thuy Linh.
