Zii Jia clears qualifiers to reach Thailand Open main draw


PETALING JAYA: Independent men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia booked his place in the main draw of the Thailand Open after winning both his qualifying matches on Tuesday (May 12).

Zii Jia defeated Taiwan’s world No. 58 Liao Jhuo-fu 21-16, 21-13 in 35 minutes.

Earlier, the former Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist overcame India’s Manav Choudhary 21-19, 21-18.

Awaiting Zii Jia in the first round is Israel’s Daniil Dubovenko, who also advanced to the main draw after beating home players Patcharakit Apiratchataset and Tanawat Yimjit in the qualifiers.

Zii Jia is a two-time champion of the tournament after winning the titles in 2022 and 2024.
