PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s women’s team bowed out in the quarter-finals of the Uber Cup after a 3-0 defeat to 16-time champions China.
However, the players can take pride in their effort as they put up a strong fight and did not make it easy for China to secure the points.
In the quarter-final tie at Forum Horsens on Thursday (April 30), K. Letshanaa gave world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi a good challenge before going down 17-21, 18-21.
Carmen Ting, who reunited with Ong Xin Yee, also impressed by taking the match to a decider against world No. 1 pair Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning.
However, experience proved the difference as Carmen-Xin Yee fell 14-21, 21-16, 13-21.
Wong Ling Ching then tried to keep Malaysia alive, but Chen Yufei was too strong, winning 21-10, 21-10 to seal the third point and send China through.
China advanced to the semi-finals and will face either Japan or Thailand.
