Zii Jia expects players to rise to new scoring demands

Looking ahead: Lee Zii Jia believes the new scoring system will bring changes but remains manageable for players.

PETALING JAYA: Independent men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia is eager to see how badminton will evolve under the new 15x3 scoring system.

Zii Jia believes players will have little trouble adapting to the change, as they will have eight months to prepare before the Badminton World Federation (BWF) introduces it on Jan 4 next year.

He expects players to adjust their training to suit the new format.

“I don’t think it’s an impossible thing for us players to adapt. And definitely, there will be some adjustment in practice as well.

“For me personally, I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s going to be when the new scoring system starts,” said Zii Jia in an interview with the Badminton World Federation.

Earlier, BWF members voted in favour of the new 15x3 scoring system after the proposal received the required two-thirds majority during the 87th annual general meeting in Horsens on Friday.

It will replace the current 21x3 scoring system, which was introduced in August 2006.
