PETALING JAYA: The national women’s squad has suffered a setback ahead of the Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark  from April 24–May 3, after Pearly Tan was forced to withdraw.

The world No. 2 women’s doubles player revealed that she is still dealing with a recurring back injury, ruling her out of competing in Horsens.

“I sincerely apologize for letting everyone down. I recently sustained a back injury during my last tournament, and I’m sorry that it has flared up again. I’m truly disappointed. It breaks my heart to say that I won’t be able to take part in the Uber Cup this time," said Pearly.

“There’s nothing I wanted more than to be on court, fighting for every point and standing alongside my team. But because of this injury, I have to step back for now,”  shared Pearly on her social media on Thursday (April 16).

"Three years ago, this same injury almost took everything away from me. That memory still stays with me, and it’s something I can’t ignore. These past few days haven’t been easy , I couldn’t sleep, and my mind kept going back and forth, hoping there was another option.

:Anyone who knows me understands that I would never walk away from the court. I would fight until the very last point, every single time. But this time… my body is telling me to stop, and I have to listen.

"I also don’t want my family to keep worrying about me. So right now, I need to take care of myself and give my body the time it needs to heal.

"It hurts so much for not being able to stand beside my teammates and go through this journey together. I’m truly sorry that I can’t be there to fight with you all. Please know that my heart is always with the team, and I’ll be cheering for every single one of you with everything I have, even from far away.

"I promise I will do everything I can to come back stronger. For now, all I wish for is a healthy body to return to the court again.

"I’m sorry for making everyone worry, and once again, I’m truly sorry to my team. Thank you, everyone, for your kindness and support. It truly means alot to me

Pearly was the only player absent when the squad’s departed to Herning on Tuesday (April 14) for a centralised training camp has already raised eyebrows.

At the time, national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky declined to comment on the situation.

Later that same day, Pearly posted a photo on social media showing she was undergoing treatment.
