BAM names four singles players including Zii Jia for Thomas Cup


PETALING JAYA: There were no surprises as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) named four singles players, including Paris Olympics bronze medallist Lee Zii Jia, for the Thomas Cup in Horsens, Denmark from April 24-May 3.

Also in the singles line-up are Leong Jun Hao, Justin Hoh and Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin.

The men’s doubles squad are spearheaded by world No. 2 pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, alongside Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and independent pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

Malaysia have been drawn in Group B with Japan, England and Finland.

The team will be looking to end their long wait for the Thomas Cup title, having last won it in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, the women’s squad for the Uber Cup feature four singles players led by K. Letshanaa, alongside Wong Ling Ching, Siti Zulaikha Azmi and Goh Jin Wei.

They will be joined by world No. 2 pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and two young pairs set to make their debut, Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee and Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan.

The women’s team have also been drawn in Group B alongside six-time champions Japan, Turkiye and South Africa.
