Pearly-Thinaah survive scare to reach last eight


PETALING JAYA: World No. 2 pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Championships in Ningbo after edging Taiwan’s Hsu Yin-hui-Lin Jhih-yun 21-19, 19-21, 24-22 in the second round on Thursday (April 9).

They will face either Japan’s Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara or eighth seeds Li Yijing-Luo Xumin in the last eight.

Meanwhile, young pair Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee saw their campaign come to an end after losing to world No. 7 duo Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi of Japan.

Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee went down 18-21, 14-21 in 52 minutes, marking their third defeat to Iwanaga-Nakanishi.
