Injured Zii Jia postpones training stint with national squad

PETALING JAYA: The national badminton squad may have to wait a little longer after there was no sign of professional men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Wednesday (April 1).

The Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist was supposed to begin official training with the national team as part of preparations for the Thomas Cup, which will be held in Horsens, Denmark from April 24 to May 3.

However, Zii Jia has postponed his return after picking up a minor injury and was unable to report for training.

The matter was confirmed by Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who was present to observe the national squad’s training session.

“He was supposed to start today, but due to a slight injury, we are still waiting for feedback on when he can resume training. However, he remains committed to joining,” said Zafrul.
