PETALING JAYA: Professional shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei have been given one week to decide whether they want to represent Malaysia at the upcoming Thomas and Uber Cup Finals.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) performance committee chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei said he held an hour-long discussion with both players, who attended a meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Friday (Feb 20).

The Finals will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3.

Chong Wei described the meeting as positive, adding that Zii Jia and Jin Wei requested time to consider the invitation before giving their decision.

“So far everything is fine. We had a good discussion with Zii Jia, Jin Wei and also his coach Daren. They will give us their feedback, maybe within a week. At least we now know his condition,” said Chong Wei.

When asked if there would be any terms and conditions attached to their participation, Chong Wei confirmed that discussions were ongoing.

“Yes, there are. I have discussed with the BAM president and council about extending the invitation to them.

“I told Zii Jia that BAM are under new management and a new president, and I will further discuss with the president on what can be included under the terms and conditions,” he added.

Zii Jia and Jin Wei were accompanied by coach Liew Daren at the meeting.

The last time Zii Jia was called up for national duty, he had made several requests as he was under a different sponsorship.
