Kento Momota announces marriage, keeps bride's identity under wraps

PETALING JAYA: Badminton great Kento Momota has shared happy news off the court after confirming that he has tied the knot.

The 31-year-old made the announcement on his social media platforms on Friday (Jan. 9).

However, the two-time world champion did not reveal the identity of his wife or share any wedding photos.

Instead, he posted an image showing their hands together, with wedding rings on their fingers.

"To everyone who has always supported me, I would like to share some personal news that I have officially registered my marriage.

"As I begin a new chapter in my life, I will move forward with gratitude, staying grounded in my original aspirations, and with a strong sense of determination and responsibility, while remaining true to myself.

"I sincerely ask for your continued and unwavering support,” said Momota.

Momota announced his retirement in April 2024 after struggling to regain his best form following a road accident in 2020, which occurred shortly after he won the Malaysia Masters title.

However, the former world No. 1 has remained active on the court, regularly featuring in exhibition tournaments, and most recently competed in the King’s Cup organised by Lin Dan in Shenzhen two weeks ago.

Momota even hinted at a comeback when he attended the Penang Badminton Association’s (PBA) centennial celebration in November.
