KUALA LUMPUR: Reigning world champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei’s run in the Malaysian Open ended after the mixed pair went down to Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet in the quarter-finals.

The duo fought hard in the first two games but could not find a way past the world No. 8 pair, and eventually ran out of gas and lost 17-21, 21-17, 10-21 at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil on Friday (Jan 9).

The defeat meant that world No. 4 Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s hopes of making it into back-to-back semi-finals in the home Open were dashed.

It was their second defeat to the Hong Kong pair in four meetings.

Malaysia’s challenge in the mixed doubles is over after the pair’s exit.
