Kim Wai embraces new BAM role with joy and gratitude

CHANG KIM WAI - BAM

PETALING JAYA: Former national player Chang Kim Wai is glad to be back with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) - this time in a new role as a coach.

The 49-year-old expressed his delight at being given the opportunity to work once again with some of the best coaches and players in the world.

He will join the men’s doubles coaching team under head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi and work alongside fellow assistant coach Muhammad Miftakh.

"It’s an honour to serve Malaysian badminton once again. I look forward to working closely with coach Herry, coach Miftakh and our players to achieve greater success for the country," said Kim Wai.

Born in Perak, Kim Wai was among Malaysia’s top men’s doubles players during his playing days. He was a silver medallist at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, a bronze medallist at the 2002 Asian Games, and a member of the national team that finished runners-up at the 2002 Thomas Cup.

Kim Wai will be responsible for helping to plan and execute high-performance training programmes, with a focus on developing tactical awareness, partnership chemistry and consistency among the national men’s doubles players.

He is expected to report for duty on Nov 4.

"We are pleased to welcome Kim Wai into our coaching team," said national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky in a statement released by BAM on Thursday (Oct 30).

"His proven track record and deep understanding of doubles play make him a solid addition to the setup under coach Herry.

"We believe this combination will help our pairs reach greater heights."
