Early heartbreak for Sze Fei-Izzuddin in Denmark Open

PETALING JAYA: Former world No. 1 men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani endured another early exit after going down in the first round of the Denmark Open on Wednesday (Oct 13).

Third seeds Sze Fei-Izzuddin faced England’s Ben Lane-Sean Vendy, who were still riding high after their Arctic Open triumph last week.

The English duo once again proved to be a thorn in Malaysia’s side, as Sze Fei-Izzuddin struggled to find their rhythm and eventually fell 13-21, 21-13, 14-21 in 56 minutes.

Last month, they were knocked out in the second round of the Hong Kong Open but showed slight improvement at the China Masters, where they reached the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah showed no signs of fatigue as they cruised past Indonesia’s Rachel Rose-Febi Setianingrum 21-13, 21-17 in the first round yesterday.

Fresh from defending their Arctic Open title last week, Pearly-Thinaah will next face Japan’s newly formed duo Arisa Igarashi-Chiharu Shida in their bid for a quarter-final spot.
