PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are motivated to continue their strong form after receiving RM60,000 from Allianz Malaysia Berhad as reward for capturing the world title in Paris in August.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei were given the well-deserved incentive after creating history by becoming the first Malaysians to win gold in the mixed doubles in the world meet.
The duo were also only the second Malaysians to be crowned world champions after men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik’s breakthrough victory in 2022.
Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah were also rewarded with RM40,000 for claiming silver.
Pearly-Thinaah were the first Malaysians in the women’s doubles to win a medal in the prestigious event.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei were grateful for the support from Allianz, who are one of the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) sponsors and have vowed to keep up their good work.
“I’m really honoured to receive this reward from Allianz. It means a lot to me and Tang Jie,” said Ee Wei.
“This is a great motivation to keep working hard and continue improving. I’m truly grateful for the support from Allianz.”
World No. 4 Tang Jie-Ee Wei continued their fine form after the world meet when they finished runners-up in the China Masters in Shenzhen last month.
The pair are also the first Malaysians this year to qualify for the season ending World Tour Finals from Dec 17-21 in Hangzhou by virtue of their world title win.
The duo will next compete in the Denmark Open from Oct 14-19 in Odense.
Meanwhile, world No. 2 Pearly-Thinaah are also determined to keep performing well this year when they return to action in the Arctic Open which starts on Tuesday in Vantaa, Finland.
The pair have remained consistent this year, capturing the Thailand Open and finishing second in the Japan and Indonesian Opens, and Indonesian Masters.
Pearly-Thinaah are also on track to book their spot in the Tour Finals as they are currently third in the Race to Finals ranking.
Only the top eight pairs in the world can qualify for the competition.
