PETALING JAYA: It was the end of the road for home stars Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei after going down to China's Gao Jiaxuan-Wei Yaxin in the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Masters on Friday (May 22).
The reigning world champions, who were also the second seeds, tried to match the newly formed Chinese pair but found them too strong to handle, losing 18-21, 16-21 at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil.
“They have their own strengths, but today I personally felt that our attack was not aggressive enough. That made it difficult for us to get our game going,” said Tang Jie.
Ee Wei also admitted the defeat was a painful one, especially after the pair had a long period to prepare for the tournament.
“I think after more than a month’s break, this was our first tournament to find our rhythm again. But there are no excuses. A loss is still a loss. So we need to discuss why we lost,” added Ee Wei.
