Go-Teoh hope for improved performances in Europe to qualify for Tour Finals

Tall order: Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee need to break into the top eight to make the cut for the World Tour Finals.

PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttlers Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee are eyeing a spot in the World Tour Finals from Dec 17-21 in Hangzhou.

Mei Xing-Pei Kee are currently ranked No. 11 in the Race to Finals rankings and need to break into the top eight to make the cut for the first time.

The duo are hoping for a good end to the year but believe they need to become more consistent to stand a chance to book a place in Hangzhou.

“We want to fight for a place in the World Tour Finals. Our performances have been up and down this year, so we hope to become more stable,” said Pei Kee.

“We need to at least reach the quarter-finals or semi-finals in our next tournaments to have a chance to qualify.”

Mei Xing-Pei Kee will need big performances in the upcoming Denmark Open (Oct 14-19), French Open (Oct 21-26) and Hylo Open (Oct 28-Nov 2) to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The pair, who are currently ranked No. 19 in the world, have shown progress since combining last year but are still searching for consistency.

Pei Kee also said that slight thigh and knee injuries have hampered her performances with Mei Xing lately.

“I was carrying thigh and knee injuries since the World Championships in Paris last month and this affected my confidence,” said Pei Kee.

“I’ve recovered now and I’m trying to regain my self belief. Mei Xing and I also need to become more stable in tournaments.

“We have to come up with solutions faster for the problems we face during matches.”

Mei Xing-Pei Kee stunned Japan’s world No. 6 Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi to reach the China Open quarter-finals in July but have struggled to maintain their form since then.

The duo suffered early round defeats in four of their last five tournaments including in the world meet and need to raise their game in Europe next month.

While Mei Xing-Pei Kee face a fierce battle to qualify for the Tour Finals, national No. 1 Pearly-Thinaah have a strong chance to make the cut as they are currently third in the Race to Finals ranking.
