Title holders Pearly-Thinaah off to a good start in Hong Kong Open

PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah underlined their status as Hong Kong Open defending champions with a commanding start, cruising into the second round on Tuesday (9 Sept).

Fresh from their World Championships runners-up finish two weeks ago, Pearly-Thinaah proved too strong for home pair Chu Wing Chi-Yu Yi Kiu, needing just 25 minutes to secure a 21-9, 21-9 victory at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon.

The second seeds will now await the winners of the first-round clash between China's Chen Qingchen-Keng Shuliang and Indonesia's Febriana Kusuma-Meilysa Puspitasari.
