PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah have beaten China's world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning in a final before and they can do it again.
Pearly-Thinaah will take on Shengshu-Tan Ning in a mouthwatering showdown in the World Championships final at Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle in Paris later on Sunday (Aug 31).
While the formidable Chinese duo will start as the favourites after overcoming the world No. 2 pair nine times in their past 12 meetings, Pearly-Thinaah can take heart from their win in the Hong Kong Open final last year.
Then, the Malaysians defied the odds and performed brilliantly to claim a 21-14, 21-14 victory.
Shengshu-Tan Ning though beat Pearly-Thinaah in three other finals after that in the Arctic Open last year, Indonesian Open in June and Japan Open last month.
Despite the defeats, the latter have proved that the Chinese pair are not invincible and will be out to pull off an upset again this time and end Malaysia's wait for the women's doubles gold in the world meet.
