PETALING JAYA: High-flying shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah have created history by ending Malaysia's wait for a women's doubles medal in the World Championships.

Pearly-Thinaah secured the huge breakthrough after beating world No. 19 Bulgarian sisters Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva 21-15, 21-10 in the last eight at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle in Paris on Friday (Aug 29).

The world No. 2 pair were in control throughout the match to come away with the commanding victory in just 32 minutes.

Pearly-Thinaah have surpassed their run in 2023 in Copenhagen where they made it as far as the quarter-finals and have now assured themselves at least a bronze.

Awaiting the duo in the last four will be Japan's world No. 3 Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida.
