PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have assured Malaysia of at least a bronze medal after powering into the semi-finals of the World Championships in Paris.

In the quarter-final at the Adidas Arena on Friday (Aug 30), Tang Jie-Ee Wei had a shaky start against India’s Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto, who came in brimming with confidence after their upset over world No. 5 pair Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet in the third round.

But Tang Jie-Ee Wei quickly regained their composure to seal a convincing 21-15, 21-13 victory in just 37 minutes.

It was a sweet triumph as it also ended Malaysia’s 19-year wait for a medal in the mixed doubles event at the world meet, last achieved by Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty.

Kien Keat-Pei Tty won bronze at the 2006 edition in Madrid, Spain.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will take on home favourites Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue in the semi-finals today.
