Pang Ron-Su Yin serve up a stunner by upstaging veterans Goh-Shevon

PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin pulled off a big surprise to upstage seniors Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie to reach the World Championships mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Pang Ron-Su Yin, who are making their debuts together in the world meet, showed great fighting spirit to come from behind to beat world No. 6 Soon Huat-Shevon 13-21, 23-21, 21-17 at the Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle in Paris on Thursday (Aug 28).

The world No. 16 pair looked down and out when they trailed 16-19 in the second game but refused to throw in the towel and came back to grab the win.

Pang Ron-Su Yin have made it into the last eight for the first time since reaching the same stage in the Orleans Masters in March.

Said Pang Ron: "This is a big breakthrough for us, considering that we did not do well this year."

The pair though have a tough task next against China's world No. 2 Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin.
