Wei Chong-Kai Wun upstage seniors Aaron-Wooi Yik to lift Malaysian Masters title

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun emerged champions in the Malaysian Masters after upstaging senior teammates Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.

World No. 8 Wei Chong-Kai Wun fought brilliantly to come away with a 21-12, 15-21, 21-16 win over world No. 3 Aaron-Wooi Yik in 50 minutes at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Sunday (May 25).

The former were the first Malaysians to capture the men’s doubles title in the tourney since Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah’s victory in 2013.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun went one step better after finishing runners-up to South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae in the competition in 2023.

Meanwhile, it was still a good outing for Aaron-Wooi Yik after they made it into the final in the home tourney for the first time.

The pair also reached three finals in just two months after they won the Asian Championships last month and the Thailand Open last week.
