Aaron-Wooi Yik march into Thailand Open quarters


PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik smashed into the Thailand Open quarter-finals with a commanding win over Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita.

The world No. 5 pair needed only 38 minutes to beat the Japanese world No. 36 duo 21-17, 21-17 at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok on Thursday (May 15).

Aaron-Wooi Yik will play teammates Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi in the last eight, guaranteeing a Malaysian representative in the semi-finals.

World No. 21 Roy King-Arif swept aside another Malaysian pair, world No. 68 Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing 21-11, 21-11 in an earlier match.
