KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin will get a chance to avenge their compatriots’ painful defeat in the Orleans Masters quarter-finals on Friday (March 7).

Pang Ron-Su Yin, who beat Taiwan’s Lu Ming-che-Hung En-tzu 16-21, 21-13, 21-16 in the second round on Thursday, will face world No. 173 duo Rehan Kusharjanto-Gloria Widjaja.

The Indonesians had stunned top seeds Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei 21-8, 21-17 in the second round.

This will be Pang Ron-Su Yin’s first-ever meeting with the Indonesian pair.

In the women's doubles, second seeds Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah overcame South Korea’s Jeong Na-eun-Lee Yeon-woo 22-20, 11-21, 21-14 to set up a showdown with China’s Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian.

Teammates Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing also delivered a solid performance, defeating Indonesia’s Meilysa Puspitasari-Rachel Rose 21-18, 21-15. They will now take on South Korea’s sixth seeds, Kim Hye-jong-Kong Hee-yong.

In men’s doubles, Malaysia’s sole remaining pair, Wan Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King, will take on fourth seeds Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan of Taiwan.

The fast-rising duo had to work hard to secure their quarter-final berth, overcoming a stubborn American pair, Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith, 21-18, 21-11.

Meanwhile, men’s singles ace Lee Zii Jia will go up against Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen, who is coached by former Malaysian shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain, in the last eight.

Zii Jia was in commanding form in the second round, sweeping past former world No. 1 K. Srikanth of India 21-11, 21-17.
