KUALA LUMPUR: Men's doubles shuttler, Fazriq Razif silenced his critics by ending a two-year title drought with a triumphant victory at the Sri Lanka International Series alongside Bryan Jeremy Goonting.

Fazriq had been under scrutiny for his lacklustre performances in recent tournaments.

The criticism grew louder last week when he and Bryan, despite being the top seeds, suffered a shock first round exit to unheralded Taiwanese pair Huang Tsung-i-Lin Ting-yu at the Sri Lanka International Challenge.

Determined to prove himself, Fazriq, son of badminton legend Datuk Razif Sidek, turned things around this week by clinching the title in Colombo.

He and Bryan defeated teammates Goh Boon Zhe-Wong Vin Sean 17-21, 21-16, 21-18 in an all-Malaysian final at St Joseph’s College after an intense one-hour battle.

This marked Fazriq’s first title since winning the Malaysia International Series in Kota Kinabalu in 2023, where he partnered Vin Sean to beat Chia Wei Jie-Liew Xun in the final.
