Sindhu getting married and skipping Malaysian Open

PETALING JAYA: India's top women singles shuttler P.V. Sindhu is one of the local fans' favourite players but she will not be making her appearance in the Malaysian Open from Jan 7-12 next year.

The 29-year-old former world champion is getting married to professional IT Venkata Datta Sai on Dec 22, according to the Times of India.

Sindhu's father P.V. Ramana had announced the news.

He however, confirmed that Sindhu, who has twice won medals at the Olympic Games (silver and bronze), will continue to play on the international stage.

The reigning Syed Modi International winner Sindhu's name is not listed in the Malaysian Open but she could be making her appearance at the subsequent tournament and home meet - Indian Open from Jan 14-19.
