PETALING JAYA: Doubles shuttler Tan Wee Kiong’s challenge is over in the Macau Open but he can still afford to smile.

The 35-year-old Wee Kiong and his partner Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub went down 12-21, 19-21 to Indonesians Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza Pahlevi in the semi-finals yesterday.

“It’s our first semis in the World Tour 300 tournament,” said Wee Kiong.

Wee Kiong won the silver medal with Goh V Shem at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games but he has been playing with Azriyn since the Taiwan Open in June last year.

Meanwhile, it was also over for mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin yesterday, when the duo went down fighting 15-21, 21-17, 14-21 to Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle of Indonesia.
