South Korea dethrone China to clinch their third Uber Cup

PETALING JAYA: South Korea delivered a stunning performance to shock powerhouse China 3-1 and clinch their third Uber Cup title in Horsens today (May 3).

The Koreans added to their tally after having previously lifted the trophy at the 2010 edition in Kuala Lumpur and 2022 in Bangkok, also defeating China on both occasions.

This time at the Forum Horsens, world No. 1 An Se-young got the first point for South Korea after she beat world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi 21-10, 21-13 in 47 minutes.

Sixteen-time winners China then levelled the tie as world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning took down Jeong Na-eun-Lee So-hee 21-15, 21-12 in 53 minutes.

The second singles match saw world No. 17 Kim Ga-eun face world No. 4 Chen Yufei, and the former pulled off an impressive 21-19, 21-15 win in 55 minutes.

It was up to doubles pair Baek Ha-na-Kim Hye-jeong to seal the win for South Korea, and they did so by clawing their way back to down Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian 16-21, 21-10, 21-13 in 85 minutes to dethrone China and clinch the title for the third time.
