KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie have crowned their great run in the Malaysian Masters by capturing the title on Sunday (May 26).

The newlyweds rose to the occasion magnificently to beat Indonesia’s world No. 15 Rinov Rinaldy and Pitha Haningtyas 21-18, 21-19 in the final at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, much to the delight of the passionate home fans.

World No. 18 Soon Huat and Shevon became the first home representatives to win the title since another mixed doubles pair, Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing, triumphed in 2017.

The independent pair are also the first Malaysians to win at home since Datuk Lee Chong Wei won the men’s singles title in the home Open in 2018.

It was Soon Huat and Shevon’s second title this year after they won the Swiss Open in March.
