Our shuttlers reach World Junior C'ships mixed team semis


PETALING JAYA: The junior shuttlers led by Eogene Ewe in the men's singles beat India 3-0 to storm into the mixed team semi-finals of the World Junior Championships in Spokane, Washington on Thursday (Sept 28).

Mixed doubles pair Bryan Goonting-Chan Wen Tse gave Malaysia the perfect start by overcoming Satwik Reddy-Vaishnavi Khadkekar 21-12, 21-16.

Eogene then doubled the team's advantage with a hard-fought 21-18, 16-21, 21-16 win over Ayush Shetty.

Ong Xin Yee then brilliantly came from behind to oust Devika Sihag 18-21, 21-16, 21-14 in the women's singles to give Malaysia the overall victory.

Malaysia is now guaranteed at least a bronze medal after making it into their first mixed team semi-finals since 2017.

The team faces a tough test next against China in the last four.
