Recuperating Qi Xuan laments decision to drop her from national body

PETALING JAYA: Eoon Qi Xuan (pic) did not expect to be one of the shuttlers dropped by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

BAM carried out the trimming exercise in order to achieve better results next year by ensuring that the players did not stagnate.

Having joined the senior squad three years ago, Qi Xuan, ranked 163rd in the world, has been undergoing rehabilitation after sustaining a persistent knee injury.

Qi Xuan’s last tournament was the Taipei Open in July where she crashed out in the second round after losing to Lauren Lam of the United States.

The 22-year-old Qi Xuan said she was disappointed by BAM’s decision and decided to take a break to focus on her recovery.

“For the time being, I’ll rest to allow my injury to fully recover until I get the doctor’s approval that I’m in a good shape to train again.

“I had a knee injury for a long time but it worsened during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“I have been receiving follow-up treatment and rehabilitation since my surgery in March. When I received the letter (of termination), I was disappointed.”

“I did not expect to be one of them who were dropped as my injury is healing well.

“They just mentioned that they’re letting me go due to my injury,” explained Qi Xuan.

Myisha Khairul, Joanne Ng, Khor Jing Wen and Loh Zhi Wei were the other women’s singles players who joined Qi Xuan out the door while S. Kisona has decided to quit.

Those remaining in the women’s singles department are Tan Zhing Yi, Siti Nurshuhaini Azman and Wong Ling Ching.
