Su Hui sees a new partner as Yee See gets twin duties

PETALING JAYA: In a surprise move, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have named Cheah Yee See and Cheng Su Hui as one of the women’s doubles pairing for the ongoing SEA Games in Vietnam.

Junior shuttler Su Hui’s regular partner is her twin sister Su Yin but the coaches decided to pair her up with mixed doubles player Yee See instead for the individual event.

For now, it remains to be seen if Su Hui will pair Yee See for the team event too which starts on May 16.For now, Su Hui is looking forward to teaming up with senior Yee See.

“I am very surprised to be partnered with Yee See but I am excited for what is coming as we have never played together before,” said Su Hui.

Yee See has been assigned double duty as she will also be playing in the mixed doubles as well with Hoo Pang Ron.

The SEA Games will most probably be the last tournament together for the 23rd ranked Pang Ron-Yee See pair as they will have different partners at the Indonesian Masters next month.

Yee See has been partnered with veteran Chan Peng Soon while Pang Ron will play with Toh Ee Wei in Jakarta.

Another mixed doubles pair - 29th ranked Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei - will also be playing together for the last time in the biennial Games.

Both pairs will be looking to end their partnerships on a high.

The other Malaysians named in the individual events are Jacky Kok Jing Hong, Lim Chong King (men’s singles), Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, Mohd Haikal Nazri-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi (men’s doubles), Siti Nurshuhaini Azman, Loh Zhi Wei (women’s singles), Yap Ling-Go Pei Kee (women’s doubles).

In the team event, they will be joined by Lee Shun Yang, Justin Hoh (men’s team), Ong Xin Yee, Siti Zulaikha Azmi, Cheng Su Yin (women’s team).

Malaysia have set a target of a gold in either the men’s doubles or mixed doubles events.
