Confidence booster: Cheam June Wei stamped his class to beat India’s H.S. Prannoy 21-17, 21-7 to reach the second round of the Korean Open.

PETALING JAYA: Independent player Cheam June Wei gave himself a genuine chance of claiming a spot in the Thomas Cup squad when he ousted H.S. Prannoy of India in the first round of the Korean Open in Suncheon City yesterday.

June Wei defeated Prannoy, who finished runners-up in the Swiss Open last month, 21-17, 21-7 in 41 minutes.
