Badminton: Red hot Hon Jian and Ee Wei win Austrian Open, third title triumph in as many tournaments

PETALING JAYA: There's just no stopping national mixed pair Choong Hon Jian-Toh Ee Wei as they won the Austrian Open for their third title in as many tournaments.

Hon Jian-Ee Wei, who were only paired up in February, stunned fifth seeds William Villeger-Sharone Bauer from France 16-21,21-9,21-19 to extend their impressive unbeaten run to 15 which saw them won also the Polish Open in March and Slovenian International Series last week.

Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Haikal Nazri made it a double joy for Malaysia when they secured their maiden senior title in the men's doubles event.

The national team rookies scored a comprehensive 21-17,21-15 win over Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar of France.

Malaysia was also represented in the women's doubles final but Anna Cheong-Yap Cheng Wen found Indonesia's Ni Ketut Mahadewi-Serena Kani too hot to handle as they went down 11-21,16-21.


Men's singles: Panji Ahmad Maulana (Ina) bt Arnaud Merkle (Fra) 11-21,21-8,21-15.

Men's doubles: Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Haikal Nazri (Mas) bt Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar (Fra) 21-17,21-15.

Women's singles: Clara Azurmendi (Spa) bt Yaelle Hoyaux (Fra) 21-6 21-14.

Women's doubles: Ni Ketut Mahadewi-Serena Kani (Ina) bt Anna Cheong-Yap Cheng Wen (Mas) 21-11,21-16.

Mixed doubles: Choong Hon Jian-Toh Ee Wei (Mas) bt William Villeger-Sharone Bauer (Fra) 16-21,21-9,21-19.
