Women's doubles showing improvements under Pei Tty and Pek Siah

KUALA LUMPUR: National doubles badminton coach Wong Pei Tty has a reason to celebrate.

The former women’s doubles international’s experiment with Cheah Yee See-Chin Kah Mun has borne fruit. Yee See-Kah Mun clinched their first international title at the Hungarian International Series in Budapest on Sunday.

The youngsters beat Alexandre Boje-Gabriella Boje of Denmark 21-14, 22-20 in the final for Malaysia’s third success in women’s doubles this season.

Amelia Anscelly-Soong Fie Cho were winners at the Indian Open Grand Prix Gold in January and Singapore SEA Games in June.

Pei Tty revealed that Yee See-Kah Mun only teamed up in June.

“It’s good to see Yee See and Kah Mun win their first international title after just playing together for five months. Yee See had won the same title with Goh Yea Ching last year,” said Pei Tty, who coaches the women’s doubles players with Lim Pek Siah.

“This is a good start for Yee See-Kah Mun. But there’s a long journey ahead of them but I do see potential. Yee See-Kah Mun are very fast and aggressive. I hope they will keep on improving,” added Pei Tty.

Yee See-Kah Mun were with the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) before joining the national back-up team in 2014.

There was also joy for Malaysia at the Bahrain International Series in Isa Town on Sunday as the shuttlers managed to win three titles through independent shuttlers Tan Wee Tat-Tan Yip Jiun (men’s doubles). Yip Jiun-Yang Li Lian (mixed doubles) and Li Lian (women’s singles).
