PETALING JAYA: National sprinter Mohd Azeem Fahmi bagged his first-ever Asian Under-23 Championships gold medal after winning his 100m race in Ordos, China on Thursday (July 9).
The 22-year-old athlete took first place by clocking 10.17s, to seal his Asian Under-23 title, which also bodes well for his preparation for the Nagoya-Aichi Asian Games in September as he looks to defend or do better than his bronze medal win four years ago in Hangzhou, China.
Second place went to Iraq’s Falah Hassan Al-Khazaali, who clocked 10.21s, while bronze was taken by Qatar’s Salah Al-Yunis, who notched 10.23s.
Earlier in the semi-final, Azeem was the fastest sprinter out of the eight qualifiers when he clocked 10.15s in his heat one.
Azeem is currently the national record holder after he clocked 10.09s in the 2022 World Junior Championships in Cali, Colombia.
