PETALING JAYA: Malaysian sprinter Danish Iftikhar Mohd Roslee stormed into the men's 100m final at the World Athletics (WA) Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, keeping alive hopes of a historic podium finish for the country.
The 19-year-old athlete from Johor finished second in the second semi-final with a time of 10.36s on Thursday (Aug 5), qualifying for the main event on Friday (Aug 6).
Jamaica’s Gary Card finished first with a time of 10.16s, while the other who qualified for the semis was Slovakia’s Richard Machata, who clocked 10.38s.
Danish was faster in the heats when he clocked 10.30s in heat six, which is his season’s best. Another Malaysian, Airiel Iskandar Rusli, didn't make the semi-finals after clocking 10.65s to finish eighth in heat eight.
United States’ Tate Taylor is the favourite to win it as he clocked 10.06s in his semi-final to be the fastest finalist among the nine who qualified.
