BANGKOK: National long jumper Andre Anura Anuar saved the best for last to strike gold at the Supachalasai Stadium here on Monday (Dec 15).

The 26-year-old, who holds the national record of 8.02m, surged to the top with his final attempt, soaring to 7.71m to seal the title.

The Malaysian fans erupted in celebration as the Sabahan - also the contingent’s flag bearer - immediately whipped off his jersey in delight.

Philippines’ Janry Ubas claimed silver with a leap of 7.64m, while Vietnam’s Pham Van Nghia settled for bronze after jumping 7.49m.

The victory made amends for Andre’s earlier disappointment after he had to settle for silver in the triple jump event on Saturday.
