Haikal shatters Sukma recurve record


KAJANG: Pahang’s Mohd Haikal Danish Syamsul Affandi shattered the Malaysia Games (Sukma) archery recurve qualifying record at the National Institute of Valuation (Inspen) Stadium here on Tuesday (Aug 18).

In the men’s event, the 21-year-old national athlete performed strongly from the first to the sixth end, scoring a total of 674 points to erase the previous mark of 656 set by Terengganu’s Mohd Saiful Islam Mohd Rizuwan at the 2024 edition in Kuching.

Johor’s Wan Qayyil Syahmi took silver with 659 points, while Sabah’s Quik Chern Xin earned the bronze medal with 656 points.

In the women’s qualifying event, Sarawak’s Joey Tan Xing Lei finished just two points shy of matching her Games record of 645 set in Sukma 2024.

The 19-year-old scored 643 points to finish ahead of Selangor’s Nur Leka Harisya Zainal Habsahli (642) and Kedah’s Nur Auni Aqilah Andry (634).
