Archer Fatin getting the best of both worlds in studies and sports

PETALING JAYA: It pays to be a bookworm, at least that’s the case for national compound archer Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh.

Fatin is currently doing her doctorate studies (PhD) in Sports Science at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) but has not put her sport in the backseat. Instead, she is using the knowledge gained from hours of studies and researches to become a better archer.

The 32-year-old said she was reaping the best from both worlds - studies and sports.

“I’m studying biomechanics and training programmes now and I have a better understanding of which muscles are used by compound athletes,” said Fatin.

“I aim to apply my understanding to develop tailored strength conditioning programmess for my training so that I can enhance my performance.”

She has completed seven semesters and has two more left to complete her journey as a student.

“My target this year is to attend all the local competitions and improve my scores. I want to set new personal bests or even break my record,” she said.

“I will follow my coach’s suggestion to focus more on technical aspects of my game as I have just made some changes to my equipment.”
