Auxiliary police not authorised to retain MyKad

ON a recent working visit to a bank training centre in Bangi, I encountered a troubling practice. At the security checkpoint, an auxiliary police personnel required me to surrender my MyKad, retaining it until I exited the premises.

The National Registration Act 1959 and National Registration Regulations 1990 clearly state that the MyKad is the property of the government of Malaysia and must remain in the possession of the cardholder at all times.
