THE Malaysian badminton fraternity was hopeful that our top mixed doubles pairing of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei would bring glory to our country at one of badminton’s most prestigious tournaments, the All-England. Sadly, this did not materialise: they lost to a lower ranking pair from Denmark, Rasmus Espersen-Amalie Kudsk (“World champs Tang Jie-Ee Wei crash out of All-England”, The Star, March 4; online at bit.ly/ 4syiWH0).
Badminton is not just a sport in Malaysia – it carries pride, history, and expectations. When world champions fall early at a tournament as prestigious as the All England, emotions naturally run high.
