Public health must not be traded for short-term profits

RECENT media narratives that appear to downplay tobacco control measures – including Malaysia’s Generational Endgame (GEG) initiative – undermine the global consensus reached through the World Health Organisation’s Frame-work Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC).

The WHO FCTC represents the collective will of the international community to eliminate tobacco use and protect present and future generations from its devastating health, social, economic, and environmental consequences. Malaysia, as a party to the WHO FCTC, is legally and morally bound to uphold both the letter and the spirit of this convention.
