THE government’s recent inconsistency over the statement that government schools must not hold events involving alcoholic beverages has raised deep concern within the Malaysian Chinese community.

Within just 24 hours, the Prime Minister revised his own position by clarifying that Chinese primary school halls may continue to host traditional community events such as weddings and fundraising dinners which may include alcoholic beverages. Sudden changes of this nature create uncertainty and undermine public confidence in policy implementation.
