Fly the flag with confidence in celebration of National Month

Symbol of unity: The Jalur Gemilang flying above motorists along Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, creating a festive atmosphere for the 2025 National Month celebration. The Merdeka spirit of goodwill and solidarity should prevail when errors are made in displaying the flag. — ART CHEN/The Star

THERE have been instances in the past when the national flag, now fondly known as Jalur Gemilang, was displayed wrongly. I remember one incident in the 1980s when a sundry shopkeeper accidentally displayed the flag upside down.

A passing policeman alerted the shopkeeper who immediately corrected the mistake. The policeman then continued with his patrolling duty, and the day passed by without any untoward incidents.
