Exercise caution in global carbon trade

THE Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) Bill 2025 was passed in the Dewan Negara on March 25. This law mandates, among others, that licences must be obtained for importing carbon dioxide captured outside Malaysia with the sole purpose of permanent storage within the country.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has previously indicated that this industry could potentially contribute up to US$250bil (RM1.1 trillion) to the Malaysian economy over the next 30 years.
