Holistic approach to education

I REFER to the recent discussions pertaining to the Education Ministry’s decision to abolish the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) and Form 3 Assessment (PT3), and calls from various quarters for these exams to be reinstated.

Numerous studies, both local and international, have shown that school-based assessment or, in our case, pentaksiran berasaskan sekolah (PBS) is the best approach for holistic student evaluation. Countries like the United Arab Emirates, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Norway have moved away from final terminal examinations in favour of school-based assessments.
