Time to overhaul Immigration Department

THE integrity of the Immigration Department has been called into question time and again due to rampant corruption. Despite efforts by its director-general, and the establishment of an Integrity Division, corruption persists. It’s time for a complete overhaul of the department to restore public trust and accountability.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) recent arrest of 60 individuals offers a glimpse of hope (“KLIA ‘counter setting’ mastermind nabbed”, The Star, Sept 19; bit.ly/star_nabbed). But it’s not just about a few rogue officers; the entire department needs to be revamped.
