PETALING JAYA: The Special Corruption High Court, recently established by decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, will be getting a new judge.
According to a recent circular on judge transfers sighted by The Star, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin will move to the Special Corruption High Court in Kuala Lumpur.
The circular, signed by the Chief Judge of Malaya, Datuk Hashim Hamzah, states that the transfer takes effect on April 1.
Datuk Aslam Zainuddin will move from the Shah Alam High Court to the Kuala Lumpur High Court, while Noor Hisham Ismail will transfer from the Johor Bahru High Court to the Shah Alam High Court.
The Federal Court’s Chief Registrar’s Office announced on Jan 20 that the judiciary has established a Special Corruption High Court to hear corruption cases and appeals from the Special Corruption Sessions Courts.
In a statement on Tuesday (Jan 20), the Federal Court Chief Registrar’s Office said the move was approved by the Chief Judge of Malaya and the Chief Justice, in line with the decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament on Jan 19.
His Majesty had stressed the need for experienced judges and a dedicated pathway to ensure that corruption cases are resolved quickly.
The statement said the initiative reflects the judiciary's commitment to integrity and to handling corruption cases efficiently, transparently and effectively.
Currently, 14 Special Corruption Sessions Courts operate nationwide, aiming to resolve each case within a year of registration.
